Elite Professional Golfers at Home in Old Palm Golf Club

December 17, 2012

Several of the biggest golf stars on the PGA Tour and European Tour are living at Old Palm Golf Club, the premier private Club community in the Palm Beaches. With its unparalleled golf facilities and exclusivity of its neighborhoods, Old Palm provides an extraordinary North American home for golfers Lee Westwood, Louis Oosthuizen, Charl Schwartzel and Darren Clarke. Oosthuizen, Schwartzel, and Westwood have purchased residences at Old Palm, citing its gracious neighborhoods, award-winning builders and sense of community among residents and members. Clarke is a member and “regular” at the Club, where he mingles with his contemporaries and other Old Palm owners. “With its world-class golf amenities, Club and convenient location, Old Palm is ideal,” says Chubby Chandler, founder of International Sports Management, which represents the golfers and considers Old Palm its North American headquarters. “Old Palm offers our leading ISM golfers and their families a magnificent lifestyle. The players simply couldn't ask for a more spectacular place to play or sharpen their game.” Oosthuizen, the 2010 British Open Champion, was the first of the group to purchase a home in Old Palm. Louis, his wife Nel-Mare, and two young daughters moved into a stunning, two-story estate overlooking the third hole of Old Palm’s spectacular Raymond Floyd-designed golf course.  The home is located within the Golf Estates, where the family will reside when Louis plays in North American PGA Tour events. “Old Palm is a haven for relaxation and enjoyment for me when I am in the United States,” says Oosthuizen. “The world-class amenities, exclusivity and a sense of community provide a sense of comfort and home between Tour events.” Fellow South African and 2011 Masters champion and recent winner of the Thailand Golf Championsh, Schwartzel,  purchased a large estate at Old Palm. Charl and his wife, Rosalind, are finalizing plans on the custom home they’ll build in the Custom Estates. Home sites in this elegant neighborhood average one full acre, a rare and welcome luxury in the Palm Beaches. “Living at Old Palm has been a wonderful experience and not just because of its exceptional golf facilities,” says Schwartzel. “Old Palm makes for a relaxing lifestyle, so I can play my best when traveling throughout the United States for PGA Tour events. It allows for privacy when we want it, and when we’re in the Club the members have welcomed us like old friends.” Westwood, who hails from England, recently purchased his home in Old Palm’s Custom Estates neighborhood as a year-round base. Hasey Construction is customizing the residence to suit the Westwood family, which includes Lee’s wife, Laurae, and their son and daughter. The home is designed for entertaining and features unique characteristics such as a fire pit within the swimming pool, and a NanaWall system of folding glass doors that opens the home’s interior space to the outdoors. “Old Palm is an ideal living situation for me and my family, and the convenient location and weather are optimal for my PGA Tour schedule. The phenomenal practice facilities coupled with the outstanding amenities and atmosphere make Old Palm the perfect home for us.” The Golf Studio at Old Palm has earned a reputation as one of America’s best game improvement facilities. It includes a spacious double-ended range, V-1 and Trackman equipped hitting bay, short-game area and three regulation practice holes – a par 3, 4, and 5 – on which golfers can replicate every shot and angle they encounter on the par-72 course. Old Palm’s tournament-caliber golf course presents an enticing blend of power and precision-oriented holes. The front nine is routed through sweeping savannahs and wetlands while the back nine is carved through indigenous palm and pine trees. Traditional square tee boxes give the course a classic feel, and large landing areas and subtly elevated greens emphasize approach shot values. Old Palm is exceptional on so many levels, and that passion for excellence carries into the Club, a welcome blend of tradition and contemporary luxuries that feels like home. Designed to mirror the intimate scale of a Palm Beach estate, the Mediterranean-style Club encourages members to mingle in its casual, pleasantly understated atmosphere. Dining in the Club’s four magnificent venues is as exquisite as it is friendly. The sense of comfort and conviviality just naturally extends into the Spa, Fitness Center and the Casitas, adjacent to the Club where members can house their guests in sumptuously appointed suites.
