Old Palm resident and 2011 Masters champion Charl Schwartzel captured the Nanshan China Masters on Sunday, shooting a clutch four-under-par 68 in the final round. Starting the day six strokes back, Schwartzel caught fire on the back nine to edge fellow Old Palm member Darren Clarke and defending champion Liang Wenchong by one shot.
âItâs always satisfying to win,â said Schwartzel. âIâve played a lot of golf tournaments and done a lot of traveling in the past few months and it felt like Iâve been playing really good golf with no results, so itâs nice to have something finally go your way.â
Although Schwartzel claimed he hadnât struck the ball well all week, his game came together when it counted the most. As inspiration, he drew on memories of his come-from-behind victory in the 2011 Masters, when he started the day four back.
After to win, Schwartzel tweeted, âWas a long trip to China, but very worthwhile at the end. Got myself a beautiful blue jacket (presented to winner much like the Masters green jacket).â
