Old Palm Golf Club and Dreamstar Custom Homes recently presented the South Florida Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation with a $30,000 check on behalf of “Build for the Cure.” Founded three years ago by local businessman and Dreamstar founder Brett Handler, Build for the Cure is a Palm Beach-based organization that builds custom homes to raise funds for breast cancer research. The Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation is the world’s largest breast cancer awareness organization, fueling the best science and making the biggest impact in the fight against the disease. The home, ‘Palais de Tere,’ is located on a one-acre home site in Old Palm’s Custom Estates neighborhood. Overlooking the 16th green of the Raymond Floyd-designed golf course, it encompasses 9,707 square feet and features five bedrooms, six full baths, two half-baths, library, covered loggia, porte cochere and a four-and-half car garage. Handler engaged the local building community by soliciting contractors and vendors to discount services during the construction of Palais de Tere, with the difference allocated to fundraising efforts. Donations from subcontractors and vendors independent of the project were also encouraged. “This is the second time Build for a Cure has created a home in Palm Beach County for the South Florida Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure,” says Handler. “Our team at Dreamstar Custom Homes is thrilled to do its part to raise funds for a cause that is important to so many people.” “We’re proud that funds generated from the construction of a home in Old Palm will directly benefit the Komen organization,” says Connie McGinnis, Director of Sales at Old Palm. “Build for the Cure is an incredibly innovative way to raise money and create awareness to fight breast cancer, and we’re honored to have worked with Dreamstar on this project.” For more information about Build for the Cure: www.facebook.com/DreamstarCustomHomes, @BuildfortheCure
