Since 1810, the Bavarian city of Munich, Germany, has held a 16-18 day celebration that runs from September into early October. This combination beer festival and carnival is a revered tradition that draws visitors from around the globe and has spawned thousands of Oktoberfest celebrations in communities elsewhere. Now a rite of fall in many U.S. towns large and small, Oktoberfest is a joyous occasion accompanied by Oompah bands, traditional Bavarian dress and folk dances, delicious German food and copious amounts of beer. Today the Munich Oktoberfest has grown to accommodate six million visitors who consumed 7.3 million liters of beer (from only six approved breweries within Munich) in 2015.
The October 19 Pub Night at Old Palm Golf Club will be a special evening of fun and authentic Oktoberfest fare featuring a wonderful buffet of favorite German dishes. Club members are in for a treat with a special menu planned to include Bavarian Bratwurst, spaetzle and craft beers. Lederhosen are acceptable attire for gents, and this is the perfect opportunity for the ladies to pull out their dirndls and mieders â but denim in good taste is fine, too. What a fun way to celebrate the end of summer and the approaching Season with Old Palm friends and family.
Oh, in case you were wondering just how much beer 7.3 million liters is, itâs enough to fill almost three 25 m x 50 m Olympic swimming pools. A toast, to cheer and good times, and pass the Löwenbräu!
