It didnât take long for non-members at our recent Menâs Guest golf outing to realize that playing at Old Palm Golf Club is an experience unlike any other. For starters, the legendary Raymond Floyd designed our course to beautifully complement the landâs natural contours, which earned Old Palm the Audubon Societyâs coveted Gold Signature Sanctuary distinction for its stewardship of the land. The front nine features wide fairways so it plays like a classic open Florida layout, and the back nine has a North Carolina feel as the fairways are carved out of dense stands of pine trees. Most of the guests in the event belong to other private clubs in the Palm Beaches, and they all agreed that Old Palm offers a golf experience that is truly unique. The policy of No Tee Times allows members to play when they want without having to wait. The exceptional Caddie Program makes each round even more enjoyable, as the caddies use their considerable knowledge to explain the courseâs layout, exact distances to the flags and roll of the greens. The Old Palm Golf Course even has an unusual 19th or âbye holeâ near the Club where members can settle friendly wagers after their round. The difference also extends into our Club, where the 60 or so golfers gathered for hors dâoeuvres, cocktails and lunch. What really struck the guests was the wonderful intimacy of the rooms. Unlike conventional clubhouses designed with unnaturally large, impersonal rooms, the Club at Old Palm feels more like a home. Itâs elegant and sophisticated, but not in the least bit stuffy. Like the Old Palm golf course, our Club has its own inimitable style. It only makes senseâthe design was heavily influenced by Raymond Floydâs wife, Maria.
