April is World Autism Awareness month, and in support Old Palm will hold a charitable event at the Club on Thursday, April 25. Residents of Old Palm and select surrounding areas will be invited with the proceeds benefiting the Els for Autism Foundation. The charity was conceived in 2009 after the son of professional golfer Ernie Els and his wife Liezl was diagnosed with autism. The event will be a craft beer and food pairing at nine stations around the Club at Old Palm, each station representing a golf hole. Local brewer Tequesta Brewing Company will provide the beer, and a variety of restaurants will offer favorite dishes from their menus. The proceeds will help fund The Els Center of Excellence, a $30-million complex that will serve families with autistic children. The groundbreaking in western Jupiter will be later this year. The center will offer global E-learning, on-site education, a research program, medical services, and job and independent living training for adults with autism. Autism strikes one in 88 children.
