Old Palm Golf Club residents and members Lee Westwood and Charl Schwartzel both finished this yearâs Honda Classic at 2-under par, tied for ninth. The scores raised Schwartzelâs position in the World Golf Rankings to 14th and solidified Westwoodâs spot at 9th. Old Palm resident Louis Oosthuizen, whoâs ranked 6th in the world, also played in the tournament, which was held just down the street at PGA National. Old Palm always plays an active role in the Honda Classic, and this yearâs tournament was no different. Because the Honda Classic is such a huge media event, we hosted many of the motor coaches for the news organizations, allowing them to park on our undeveloped parcels of land. Players and caddies also sometimes travel to the golf events in motor coaches, so parking space is at a premium. As always, Old Palm was happy to lend a hand. Right after the tournament, we hosted a party for our resident professional golfers in the Bentley model, a beautiful new home built by Courchene Development Corporation in Old Palmâs Grand Estates neighborhood. More than 80 other residents attended, along with sports agent Chubby Chandler, the founder of ISM, the company that manages Westwood, Schwartzel, Oosthuizen and Darren Clarke, who are all members at Old Palm. The party provided a wonderful setting for Old Palmâs residents and resident professional golfers to express their mutual pride in being neighbors. It was a huge success all around.
