The Ladies Book Club at Old Palm has eclectic tastes. The well-read ladies have discussed everything from F. Scott Fitzgeraldâs classic âThe Great Gatsbyâ to journalist Ariel Saberâs thought-provoking âMy Fatherâs Paradise: A Sonâs Search for His Jewish Past in Kurdish Iraq.â Now, the ladies are turning their attention to Jonathan Tropperâs sixth novel, âOne Last Thing Before I Go.â Itâs all about a sad sack named Drew Silver, who âhas been an idiot for so long that sometimes he forgets what an idiot he is.â The 44-year-old Silver has health problems, a pregnant teenager daughter, an ex-wife whom he still loves, and all sorts of quirks that make him feel hopelessly lost. Thereâs plenty to probe in this new novel and Tropperâs other work, and the ladies in the book club are sure to keep the conversation lively during their next meeting in the Ladies Lounge in Old Palmâs Club.
