Dozens of Bonnies and Clydes recently took dead aim at Old Palm, but it was all in fun as part of our Mixed Team Golf Tournament. A random drawing determined the foursomes. Each team was truly a mixed bag just like the notorious Barrow Gang, whose most famous members were the real Bonnie and Clyde. The event started with a bang at the Club on Saturday night, as guests enjoyed cocktails and hors dâoeuvres while the foursomes were drawn. Dinner followed, and the verdict was unanimousâit was phenomenal. The tournament began in earnest Sunday morning with a shotgun start (how appropriate), and it was a real shoot-out as the players made their way around Old Palmâs spectacular Raymond Floyd-designed golf course. After the tournament, many of the players stayed to watch the final round of the 2013 Masters. Old Palm resident and CBS Sports analyst Ian Baker-Finch provided much of the on-air commentary, as he covered holes 11 and 12, which make up part of Augusta Nationalâs devilish Amen Corner. Impressively, three Old Palm residents were in the field at the Masters. Louis Oosthuizen, who came in 2nd place in last yearâs Masters, failed to make the cut, but his fellow ISM professionals Charl Schwartzel the 2011 Masters champion, finished tied for 25th, while Lee Westwood finished tied for 8th.
