In honor of World Autism Awareness month, Old Palm Golf Club recently hosted a charitable event at the Club benefiting the Els for Autism Foundation. The charity was conceived in 2009 after the son of professional golfer Ernie Els and his wife Liezl was diagnosed with autism. Hundreds of people attended the evening event, which was a craft beer and food pairing experience. In addition to Old Palm providing the spectacular venue, a variety of local restaurants and companies donated the drinks, food and staff. They included ESPN 106.3 FM, Brown Distributing, Tequesta Brewing Company, Rockstar Catering Company, Red Tapas Bar and Grille, Evo Italian, Jaye’s Cake Kingdom, Guanabanas, Coolinary Café, ChefCorp Catering, Leftovers, Café Chardonnay and Ocean Coffee. The proceeds will help fund The Els Center of Excellence, a $30-million complex that will serve families with autistic children. The groundbreaking in western Jupiter will be later this year. The center will offer global E-learning, on-site education, a research program, medical services, and job and independent living training for adults with autism. Autism strikes one in 88 children.
