It takes two to tango, but only one to salsa. That is, if youâre making salsa to eat, not dancing the salsa for fun. So get your salsa on at the Salsa Showdown, one of the hottest new events at the Gardens GreenMarket in Palm Beach Gardens. The competition is one day onlyâSunday, October 6 (8 am-1 pm), giving you plenty of time to prepare your best salsa recipe. The only rule is that you must use one ingredient from the GreenMarket purchased fresh that morning. Otherwise, itâs no holds barred. You can duplicate a recipe off the Internet, rely on an old family recipe, or concoct your own. If you need inspiration, salsa originated with the Inca people, who created the sauce out of tomatoes, chili peppers and ground squash seeds. That resulting âsalsa,â as it was coined by Franciscan priest Alonso de Molina, was used as a condiment on turkey, venison and fish. But enough with history. Itâs time to gather your ingredients to create the worldâs best salsa this side of Machu Picchu. Who knows, you might win the Judgesâ Award and start dancing (the salsa, of course) in the streets.
