During the winter break from school, many of the junior golfers at Old Palm Golf Club participated in a golf camp over three days. The instructors kept the lessons fun while teaching the essentials of the game. Beginners and more advanced players came to the camp, which followed the teaching methods of the PGA Sports Academy.
The academy keeps young golfers engaged by developing their skills in five areas:
- Fitness and nutrition
- Golf skills
- Sportsmanship, rules and etiquette
- Golf and âhybrid golfâ experiences
- Golf and physical assessments
Juniors also had the chance to play competitively in Old Palmâs recent Adult/Child Golf Tournament and Skills Challenge. Children (17 years of age and younger) could pair with any family member (18 years of age and older) and play a tournament of 3, 9 or 18 holes. The format was either a scramble or modified Chapman alternate shot.
Later, in the Skills Challenge portion of the event, the golfers enjoyed a putting contest and closest-to-the-pin competition at Old Palmâs spectacular Golf Studio. The players not only honed their skills, but also had a great time.
