Golf and horse racing came together recently during Old Palm Golf Club’s  Ninth Annual Ladies “Kentucky Derby” Member Guest. More than 40 golfers participated in the elegant event, which was held on Old Palm’s spectacular Raymond Floyd-designed golf course. The racing theme was beautifully executed throughout with all sorts of horse-related decorations. The pairings were printed on a Racing Form. There was signage for Churchill Downs. And the façade of a stable was constructed and painted with the names of some of horseracing’s greatest thoroughbreds, including War Admiral, Secretariat, Seattle Slew and Affirmed. There was even a female jockey dressed in silks on horseback. It made a great backdrop for photos before the ladies teed off. The Kentucky Derby is one of 17 annual golf tournaments that Old Palm holds for members, and it’s always one of the most anticipated events. The competition was fierce, and the low score wasn’t decided until the homestretch. Like all the Triple Crown events, this year’s Kentucky Derby was a classic.
