Old Palm will be celebrating this year’s Masters in style because our community has so many strong ties to the tournament. For starters, three of our residents will be competing—2011 Masters Champion Charl Schwartzel, 2010 British Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen, and Lee Westwood, who is looking forward to his 15th appearance in the Masters, having finished second in 2010 and tied for third in 2012. Old Palm member Darren Clarke will also be teeing it up, trying for his second win in a Major. Two other Old Palm residents—1976 Masters Champion Raymond Floyd and 1991 Open Champion Ian Baker-Finch—will be playing in the Masters Par 3 Contest that’s held the day before the famed tournament begins. Baker-Finch has the further distinction of covering Holes 11 and 12 in the Masters for CBS Sports. In honor of these professional golfers participating in the year’s first Major, Old Palm has plenty of festivities scheduled. TVs throughout the Club will telecast the Par 3 Contest and all four days of the Masters Tournament. On Saturday, a Masters draw will be held, where gifts like authentic Masters money clips and putter head covers will be given to the winners. And on Sunday morning, Old Palm is holding a Couples Masters tournament on our spectacular Raymond Floyd-designed golf course. In keeping with tradition, pimento cheese sandwiches will be served.
