John Wayne was an icon, a larger-than-life symbol of America that epitomized the Western film. But there was much more to his story as revealed in Scott Eymanâs new book âJohn Wayne: The Life and Legend.â The author will be at the Norton Museum of Art on Thursday, May 29 (7-8PM) to discuss the man behind the legend. Itâs all part of the Nortonâs weekly Art After Dark series, which Old Palm members have been enthusiastically attending for years. The book recounts all sorts of interesting facts about Wayne. It tells of his early days as a prop man on movie sets herding geese, Wayneâs three wives, his Oscar-winning performance in âTrue Grit,â and the harrowing details of his death from cancer in 1979. The Eyman event is complimentary with admission to the Norton, which is half price on Thursdays. The museum is located at 1451 S. Olive Avenue, West Palm Beach, just minutes from Old Palm Golf Club.
