Old Palm recently held its fourth annual Gentlemenâs Cigar Dinner and Rare Whisky Tasting, and it was a spirited event once again. Old Palm member Marvin Shanken hosted the evening at the Club and was joined by Carlos Fuente, Jr., President of Arturo Fuente Cigars of the Dominican Republic, one of the worldâs premium cigar makers. During the evening, Fuente shared the history of his family-owned company and how he personally created many of the brandâs finest cigars. Cigar Aficionado magazine honored Funteâs extraordinary Double Corona as Cigar of the Year. To enhance the experience, Old Palm members paired various Fuente cigars with a vertical flight of Lagavulin scotch, one of the worldâs great single-malt whiskies. The distillery on Scotlandâs island of Islay produces elegant single-malts with a pungent smoky flavor with tones of sea salt, rich fruits and smoked tea. Members savored samplings of Lagavulinâs 12-, 16- and 21-year-old incarnations, which were all highly praised.
