Old Palm recently held its fourth annual Gentlemen’s Cigar Dinner and Rare Whisky Tasting, and it was a spirited event once again. Old Palm member Marvin Shanken hosted the evening at the Club and was joined by Carlos Fuente, Jr., President of Arturo Fuente Cigars of the Dominican Republic, one of the world’s premium cigar makers. During the evening, Fuente shared the history of his family-owned company and how he personally created many of the brand’s finest cigars. Cigar Aficionado magazine honored Funte’s extraordinary Double Corona as Cigar of the Year. To enhance the experience, Old Palm members paired various Fuente cigars with a vertical flight of Lagavulin scotch, one of the world’s great single-malt whiskies. The distillery on Scotland’s island of Islay produces elegant single-malts with a pungent smoky flavor with tones of sea salt, rich fruits and smoked tea. Members savored samplings of Lagavulin’s 12-, 16- and 21-year-old incarnations, which were all highly praised.
