Old Palm ladies reading Anne Tyler’s new bestseller

March 27, 2015

In anticipation of the Ladies Book Club meeting in April, many of Old Palm’s residents are reading “A Spool of Blue Thread” by Anne Tyler. This is the Pulitzer Prize-winning author’s 20th novel, and it has earned rave reviews. “TheWashington Post” calls it “an act of literary enchantment.” The “New York Book Review” hails the novel as “graceful and capacious...Quintessential Anne Tyler, as well as a quintessential American comedy.” “A Spool of Blue Thread” is the story of four generations of the Whitshank family and delicately follows the thread of their aspirations, misunderstandings, reunions and secrets. While the family appears one way on the surface, they only reveal part of the picture. During the course of the book, their true story unfolds in and around the sprawling, lovingly worn Baltimore house that has always been their anchor. Tyler lives in Baltimore and many of her most cherished books are set here. Now in her 70s, Tyler claims this will be her last novel, so it’s an excellent choice for the Ladies Book Club.
