Playing golf together is a great way for family members to have fun, become even closer and enjoy the outdoor lifestyle that is so synonymous with Florida. Recognizing all the benefits of a family golf outing, Old Palm recently held a Parent-Child Golf Tournament on our spectacular Raymond Floyd-designed golf course. Each team was comprised of two peopleâ an adult at least 18 years old, paired with a child no older than 17. To add to the competitive spirit, several different divisions were offered so teams could choose the most suitable number of holes and format for their games. The 18-hole division and 9-hole event were played according to a Modified Chapman Alternate Shot Format. In that format, both players hit tee shots and then hit their second shots from their partnerâs tee shot location. Then they select one ball to complete the hole, alternating shots until the ball is holed out. So as to include really young players and those new to the game, the tournament also offered a 3-hole division on the Par 3, Par 4 and Par 5 holes at Old Palmâs Golf Studio. To level the playing field, different tee boxes were set up with age-appropriate yardage to each hole. Judging by the smiles all around afterwards, the tournament was a great success and will be held again next year.
