Now through September 3, the nearby Norton Museum of Art is offering Florida residents free admission on Thursdays. Palm Beach County residents receive the added bonus of free admission on Saturdays, too. In addition to the Nortonâs permanent collections that include American Art and Contemporary Art, the museum has several temporary exhibitions that run beyond September. There is a photography exhibit that documents the activity of the Black Panther Party during the tumultuous summer of 1968. âGoing Placesâ showcases an extensive collection of vehicles ranging from automobiles to trains to model planes. Then, thereâs the lobby installation by British artist Terry Haggerty, who works in the tradition of geometric abstraction. The museum also hosts events such as live music on Thursday evenings (thatâs a free admission day) and programs that take a closer look at important works of art. For instance, Edward Hopperâs 1945 painting âAugust in the Cityâ will be discussed on August 19. For more information, go to www.norton.org. The Norton Museum of Art is located at 1451 S. Olive Avenue in West Palm Beach.
