Old Palm Golf Club member and resident Louis Oosthuizen recently won the very first tournament he ever played in Australia, edging out the competition by one stroke in the 2016 Perth International. Winner of the British Open in 2010, South African Oosthuizen has played all over the world, but this victory was especially meaningful because itâs his first return to the winnerâs circle in two years.
âItâs great to be back,â said Oosthuizen, who is ranked 21 in the world. âThis is a very special win for me.â
Although Oosthuizenâs round was a bit up and down at the beginning, he soon settled in so he had enough of a lead that his bogey on 18 didnât affect the outcome of the tournament. The key to his victory was a run of three birdies in six holes in the middle of the round.
Oosthuizen will now return home to Old Palm to play in the WGC Cadillac Championship in Doral in Miami. That championship begins a stretch of five tournaments in six weeks for Oosthuizen, culminating with the 2016 Masters.
