If you are looking for a unique spin on a ladiesâ night out, check out the new Chocolate Spectrum in Jupiter. Every month, from 7-9pm, ladies are guided through a global chocolate tasting while learning the art of spinning popular chocolate confections (to be taken home and enjoyed). But perhaps the sweetest part is the story behind this nascent locale. It was started by Valerie Herskowitz as a way to help her autistic adult sonâand others like himâlearn work skills and have a productively good time. âIt wasnât anything that I had planned to do,â she says. âBut as I was training to become a chocolatier, my son got really into it.â Valerie, a professor, speech therapist and pastry chef is a strong community advocate for autism. Three weeks agoâon her sixtieth birthdayâ Chocolate Spectrum opened its doors, an idea that grew out of her kitchen for the past three years. The shop provides training and job opportunities for her son and other adults with special needs. Among the monthly classes offered are chocolate- and pastry- making primers for kids of all abilities. And if you donât want to get your hands dirty in gooey goodness, you can still stop by and purchase homemade, artisanal flavored truffles, chocolate inspired pastries, European coffees and summerâs seasonal âcitrus truffleâ collection. Oh, and the best hot chocolate in town. Now thatâs rich. For more information, contact: www.thechocolatespectrum.com 6725 W Indiantown Road, STE 38 561-277-9886
