There is no shortage of activities available to both residents and visitors of the Palm Beaches, however few hold as much prestige as the Norton Museum of Art, located in West Palm Beach. This November, The Norton is hosting an array of award-winning exhibits—and making them available to you from the comfort of your home. Take advantage of this opportunity during November as it presents the perfect opportunity to spend time with the entire family!

Virtual Exhibits

On Thursday, November 3rd at 1:00 p.m., The Norton Museum of Art is hosting the exhibit, "A Closer Look", where virtual participants will study Marc Chagall’s Anniversary Flowers. Esteemed experts such as William Randolph Hearst Curator of Education Glenn Tomlinson, and Kate Faulkner, Associate Curator of Education for Public Programs will host this session on Zoom to discuss the surrealism and deeper meaning behind Chagall's colorful and vibrant painting. This type of gallery talk format is held each week and is the perfect introduction for those interested in supplementing their artistic knowledge as it focuses on a single piece of artwork in the Norton collection.

On November 6th, from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m., a virtual "Curator Conversation" will be hosted by Elizabeth B. McGraw Curator of Chinese Art, Laurie Barnes. Barnes will be discussing the insight and context behind one of her favorite exhibits, Devine Beings. Integrating spiritual concepts from different Japanese and Indian philosophies such as Buddhism and Taoism, the sculptures and paintings featured portray different cultural ideals that are connected to more than 12 other Chinese artworks currently on display at The Norton Museum of Art.

The virtual "Teen Workshop" held on November 6th at 5:00 p.m. is a wonderful opportunity for younger art aficionados to gain exposure to all that The Norton has to offer. Younger participants are able to learn about different media and techniques while working in an intimate setting with local artists or Museum educators. This particular workshop, Moving Pictures, explores the story behind The Norton's featured photographs on display. After the lesson, teens are invited to create their own animated GIF using the information they have gathered and will receive feedback from both peers and experts. This is the perfect activity for younger members of the family who may have come into town for the holidays!

The Norton Museum of Art is also hosting a virtual series, "Member insights" available to members only. On November 12th at 2:00 p.m., Veronica Hatch, Assistant to Associate Curator of Education - School and Teacher Programs will provide an in-depth view into how the Museum is taking an "inquiry-based learning approach" to engage participants of all ages. Through her perspective, audience members will learn about new ways to explain and understand art properly.

Located only minutes from hotspots such as Palm Beach Island and West Palm Beach, Old Palm Golf Club not only provides its residents the opportunity to experience a Life, Well Lived behind its private gates, but also outside of them.
