Charitable event does the heart good
December 15, 2011

As the saying goes, âcharity begins at home.â So Old Palm Golf Club and Rogers Design Group recently co-sponsored a charitable event for the American Heart Association at two of the newest model homes in our Grand Estates neighborhood, the Castillo II and the Ashford Dozens of AHA donors attended the âHuddle for the Heartâ event to hear physicians from Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center discuss ways to keep the heart healthy. Their advice was enlightening and, of course, taken to heart, as cardiovascular disease is still the number one cause of death in America The setting at Old Palm was ideal, and everyone in attendance enthusiastically toured the model homes, which were both built by Hasey Construction. Lorraine Rogers Bolton of Rogers Design Group designed the wonderful transitional-style interiors in the Castillo II. The AHA is Lorraineâs favorite charity, so itâs fitting that the event…

Golfers learn from the game’s best at Old Palm Golf Club
December 12, 2011
Practice makes perfect, especially if youâre a golfer practicing with some of the Top 100 Golf Teachers in America. More than 30 golfers were doing just that at the Golf Studio at Old Palm Golf Club during the weekend of December 4-6. Our own Director of Instruction, Mark Hackett, who is also one of those elite 100 instructors, led the much anticipated golf school event. It began casually Friday afternoon, as the participants were given fitness screenings to reveal their gamesâ weaknesses and strengths. Afterwards, they got acquainted and swapped golf stories at a cocktail party. On Saturday morning, the instruction began in earnest as the golfers were taught all sorts of easy-to-follow tips to improve every aspect of their games. Dr. Craig Farnsworth, the famed optometrist-turned-putting-guru, showed golfers his step-by-step prescription for building a reliable putting stroke. Mike Adams, creator of the LAWS of Golf philosophy, showed golfers…

Our first ladies luncheon nourishes a favorite charity
December 09, 2011

The first ladies holiday luncheon and boutique at Old Palm Golf Club, is sure to be the first of many, due to the enormous success. Nearly 130 ladies recently attended the elegant affair in our Mizner-inspired Clubhouse. Shopping, phenomenal food and charity were the attractions. The ladies had the opportunity to shop for luxury merchandise from more than a dozen prestigious designers—with a generous portion of the proceeds going to the American Heart Association. The merchandise included original, handmade jewelry from Cristiana Shields (Brooke’s sister). Jay Strongwater displayed collections of dazzling figurines, charms and home goods. And exotic leather handbags and accessories were available from Daniella Ortiz, a boutique in the heart of Palm Beach. By the end of the affair, more than $8,000 was donated to charity. It was a heartfelt gesture that’s sure to be continued at our next ladies luncheon.

A True 19th Hole
December 06, 2011

On most golf courses, the 19th hole is nothing more than the bar—a watering hole, so to speak. But at Old Palm Golf Club, you’ll find a real 19th hole, just like the ones in Scotland Traditionally, these holes were built to settle friendly wagers when golf matches were tied at the end of 18 holes, so they had to be challenging yet fair. The 19th or “bye hole” on our course is a devilish, 99-yard Par 3 with an island green. It takes a heroic shot to get close to the pin, and hazards are everywhere. Depending on the wind and your tolerance for risk, you could hit anything from a sand wedge to a 7- or even a 6-iron. Be sure to give it a shot after your round. It’s one of the few Scottish-style 19th holes in America and…
