A few parting shots as golf season winds down
May 23, 2012

Primetime for golf is beginning to wind down as a number of our members head north for the summer. But before the season ends, several events were recently held on Old Palm Golf Clubâs spectacular Raymond Floyd-designed golf course The Ladies Closing Golf and Luncheon took place in late April. It started with a lively golf scramble for the ladies, followed by a plated luncheon of lobster cakes over greens. Mimosas and Bloody Marys flowed freely adding to the festivities. All sorts of prizes and presents were given out, making this closing golf event even more memorable Many of Old Palmâs Gentlemen members played in this yearâs Menâs Senior Club Championship, another end-of-the-season golf tournament. The event was limited to members age 60 and over, and there were several different flights. Jim Deveney won the Championship Flight and received a beautiful Tiffany Crystal trophy, as did…

Old Palm Golf Club celebrates Mother’s Day with a sumptuous brunch
May 21, 2012

It’s difficult to compare with mom’s home cooking, but this Mother’s Day the chefs at Old Palm pulled out all the stops. On May 13, in celebration of the 98th national Mother’s Day, the Club held a spectacular brunch that would make any mom proud. The cold buffet was brimming with shrimp cocktail, Scottish smoked salmon, fruits and berries. There was a carving station for prime rib and country ham, another station for omelets, and classics like Eggs Benedict. The hot buffet held a wide variety of dishes including Chilean Sea Bass, Veal Oscar, Maine Lobster and Risotto, and Chicken Scallopini with Artichoke, Tomato and Oyster Mushrooms. And the desserts went on and on, from cakes and pies to cookies and ice cream sundaes. Mother’s Day is always reason to celebrate, especially when dining at Old Palm.

There Is No Turning Back Now!

By Lee Bladen Old Palm's Golf Course Superintendent

On Tuesday April 15th we grassed Practice holes 1, 2, and 3, the North Chipping green, and our Nursery green with Tifeagle Bermuda grass at the rate of 30 bushel baskets per 1000 square feet. The Bermuda is hand applied as shown in the picture on the left and then machine sliced into the greens mix as shown in the picture in the middle. The cutting in process creates soil, plant contact ensuring better germination.

For the next 5 to 6 weeks every effort is made to apply constant water and a regiment of fertilizers so that the Tifeagle Bermudagrass grows sideways, knits together, and makes a solid cover across the new green. The quicker we can cover the bare dirt, the less damage we will experience from the impending summer storms, and we can…

Guests enjoy a different golf experience
May 16, 2012

It didnât take long for non-members at our recent Menâs Guest golf outing to realize that playing at Old Palm Golf Club is an experience unlike any other. For starters, the legendary Raymond Floyd designed our course to beautifully complement the landâs natural contours, which earned Old Palm the Audubon Societyâs coveted Gold Signature Sanctuary distinction for its stewardship of the land The front nine features wide fairways so it plays like a classic open Florida layout, and the back nine has a North Carolina feel as the fairways are carved out of dense stands of pine trees. Most of the guests in the event belong to other private clubs in the Palm Beaches, and they all agreed that Old Palm offers a golf experience that is truly unique The policy of No Tee Times allows members to play when they want without having to wait.…

Courchene Development building two new models in the Grand Estates
May 14, 2012

On the heels of opening two new model homes in Old Palmâs Golf Estates, Courchene Development Corporation has now started construction on two additional brand new models, which will be finished before the yearâs end. Both of these model homes are in the Grand Estates, where each home site is a generous half-acre overlooking a lushly landscaped water feature âBoth homes have large outdoor entertainment areas with sit-down bars and fireplaces,â says Paul Courchene, the companyâs President and Partner. âThereâs a natural flow between the outdoor and indoor spaces, which the designs accentuate.â The 5,837-square-foot Bentley has four bedrooms, five full and two half baths, a den and a tiered home theater that will be totally automated, right down to the electric reclining seats. Although the Palm Beach-inspired floor plan is grand and open, the home still retains its warmth and intimacy. One of…
