The Season Ends with an International Flair
May 11, 2012

The Club season at Old Palm Golf Club recently ended with an event that will be remembered well into next season. The eveningâs theme was âAround the World,â and the atmosphere was truly international as members gathered on the Event Lawn for the festivities. The passed hors dâoeuvres and spectacular dinner that followed featured some of the worldâs most popular cuisines, including Asian, German, Italian, French and Caribbean Still, the highlight was a live performance by Franco Corso, an Italian baritone known as âThe Voice of Romance.â Singing a mix of classic Italian-American favorites and songs made famous by Andrea Bocelli, Corso really set the mood for Old Palmâs members, who danced long into the night. While this was the official season-closing event, there will still be plenty of other activities at the Club all through the summer To hear some of the songs…

Strong sales spur new model home construction
May 09, 2012

The season may be winding down, but sales remain strong at Old Palm Golf Club. In March alone, three homes in the Golf Estates and another home in the Custom Estates were sold To satisfy the steady demand, several builders are constructing new model homes. Among them is Couture Lifestyle Homes, which recently began building a spectacular home in Old Palmâs exclusive Custom Estates neighborhood. The magnificent one-acre home site is exceptionally private as it sits at the end of a cul-de-sac with preserve views on two sides Designed to take full advantage of the setting, the one-story estate home has plenty of windows and sliding glass doors in the family room that pocket, resulting in a seamless flow between the indoors and outdoors. Itâs as if the entire wall has opened, which greatly extends the living space. Scheduled for completion in the fall, this new Couture Lifestyle…

May 07, 2012

PLEASE TAKE CAUTION WITH YOUR CHILDREN AND PETS, FUMIGANT IS A CHEMICAL, AND  WILL BE APPLIED TO THE BELOW INDICATED AREAS. As of last week, we have removed all the sod and 6" of greens mix on practice greens 1, 2, and 3, the north chipping green, and the maintenance nursery green in the Golf Studio Area. The above left photo  shows the removal process. Once the greens mix was removed, new clean material was placed back into the cavity on the green indicated in the above right photo. We are now ready to sterilize the new soil by using a process called Fumigation. The fumigation on the prepped greens will take place tomorrow afternoon, Friday May 4th, 2012. Soil fumigation is a soil sterilization process similar to tenting a house for termites. It is one process in greens renovation that is recommended by the United States Golf…

Old Palm Golf Club unleashes another Yappy Hour
May 04, 2012

Everyone had a doggone good time recently when Old Palm hosted Yappy Hour, a fun-filled event for residents and their canines. It was a fetching night with perfect weather for the more than 60 members and their dogs that attended Yappy Hour on the Club lawn. The members dined on barbecue and their pets — which ranged from German Shepherds to American Bulldogs — were given dog treats. But don’t think the fur was flying. The dogs were on their best behavior and got along perfectly. The Club usually holds Yappy Hour several times a year, even more often if hounded.

Mark My Words
May 02, 2012

By Mark Hackett, Director of Instruction, Old Palm Golf Club The grip is one of golfâs most important fundamentals. With a proper grip, you have a wonderful opportunity to swing the club correctly. Here are the three most popular grips Overlapping Grip â This grip, also known as the âVardon Gripâ for legendary golf great Harry Vardon, is the most common grip used in the game. To place your hands on the club using this grip, place the little finger of your bottom hand (the hand nearer the club head) in-between the index finger and middle finger of your top hand.           Interlocking Grip âThe Interlocking Grip is used most notably by Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods. It is predominantly for players with smaller fingers. To place your hands on the club using this grip, interlock the small finger of your bottom hand with the index finger of…
