Old Palm Golf Club resident Louis Oosthuizen finishes second at The Masters
April 17, 2012

It took Bubba Watsonâs miraculous shot from deep in the woods on the second hole of the sudden death play-off to beat Louis Oosthuizen in the 2012 Masters. Playing in his first major since moving to Old Palm Golf Club, Oosthuizen had his own miracle shot earlier in the day when he holed a four-iron from 253 yards for a double-eagle or âalbatrossâ on the 2nd hole - only the fourth in Masters history and the first ever on that hole âA great golf course for great finishes,â said Oosthuizen graciously, after finishing runner-up Oosthuizen knows what itâs like to win one of golfâs Majors; he captured the 2010 Open Championship on the Old Course in St. Andrews. He also has plenty in common with last yearâs Masters champion, Charl Schwartzel. The two golfers are South African, they were childhood friends, World Cup partners,…

Easter and Passover at Old Palm filled with activities
April 12, 2012

Spring is always a busy time of the year, but even more so this year as the dates for Easter and Passover fell on the same weekend. As always, there were plenty of celebrations and activities at Old Palm Golf Club, the premier private Club community in the Palm Beaches Starting Friday evening, there was a Seder dinner in the Club with traditional dishes that included brisket, gefilte fish, latke, matzo stuffing and charoset. Saturday was all about entertainment as the Club put a big screen out on the lawn for Family Movie Night featuring Hop, a tender story everyone enjoyed along with an informal dinner of grilled burgers and chicken, pasta and fish tacos, and ice cream sundae bar The festivities continued on Easter Sunday with a sumptuous 3-hour brunch in the Club. Every dish imaginable was available from the hot and cold buffets, omelet station, carving station, and…

Parrotheads celebrate Margaritaville at Old Palm
April 09, 2012

In the spirit of Jimmy Buffet, about 75 of our members recently gathered around the pool at Old Palm Golf Club to celebrate Margaritaville-style. Dressed in casual island attire like true Parrotheads—the affectionate nickname for Jimmy Buffet fans—they enjoyed a tropical dinner of Jamaican Jerk Roasted Pork, Hawaiian Chicken, Shrimp Kabobs and more. Of course, ice-cold Margaritas were also served, and the sound of whirling blenders could be heard behind the live music performed by the dance and party band Street Talk. They played one Jimmy Buffet song after another, which included Greatest Hits like “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” “Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes,” and “Margaritaville.” Everyone had a great time. It was such a success, we expect to be wastin’ away again in Margaritaville soon.

Hole-in-one highlights ladies golf outing
April 04, 2012

The Ladies from Old Palm Golf Club spent a recent morning playing the spectacular Palm Beach Par 3 Golf Course. The oceanside course actually has a lot in common with the Old Palm golf course, including its immaculate condition, drought-resistant Paspalum grass and connection with Hall of Fame golfer Raymond Floyd Floyd designed our course and redesigned the Par 3 course in 2009, which Golf Digest Magazine has described as “The Best Par 3 in the United States.” Still, as beautiful as the layout is, it didn’t break the concentration of Old Palm member Liz Litowitz, who scored a hole-in-one on the challenging 7th hole After the golf outing, the ladies enjoyed lunch at the private club at Mar-a-Lago, the former Marjorie Merriweather Post estate now owned by Donald Trump. The property is a National Historic Landmark, and the Club is renowned for its coveted Six Star…

Members get driver’s education—on the golf course and behind the wheel
April 02, 2012

Recently, 35 members of Old Palm Golf Club participated in an event that was all about drivingâgolf balls and BMWs. The unique, two-day experience started with a golf clinic at the Old Palm Golf Studio, where several of the countryâs Top 100 instructors, including Old Palmâs own Mark Hackett, showed the participants hands-on how to improve their game Next, they drove off to the Palm Beach International Raceway to get behind the wheels of a fleet of high-performance BMW Series M automobiles. To prepare the group for the adrenaline-boosting, heart-racing adventure, a team of BMW driving instructors gave them lessons in high-speed driving and road safety. Before long, they all squealed off down the raceway, each in a BMW, the âUltimate Driving Machine.â The following day, with their attention back on golf, the group enjoyed a skills competition at our Golf Studio, with the option of…
