Now open, our Junior Golf Academy is a big hit
February 06, 2012

Golf is a game you can play for life, and youâre never too young to start enjoying it. Thatâs what the kids at Old Palm Golf Club found out recently with the opening of this seasonâs Junior Golf Academy. It was a blast for everyone, as the kids learned the fundamentals of the game with a major emphasis on fun To keep the instruction entertaining and pressure free, the kids were grouped together according to age. During their one-hour session, they began to learn the varying aspects of the game, including the full swing, short game and putting. There was even time to introduce them to the basic rules of golf and course management As an added incentive, once the kids develop their skills, they can play in our Junior Club Championship and competitions with juniors in neighboring clubs. The Old Palm Junior Golf Academy runs every…

What are the latest trends in cosmetic skin care? A curious group of ladies at Old Palm found out recently during a luncheon with dermatologist Shawna Flanagan, M.D. Called âGirl Talk,â the informal gathering in the Old Palm Ladies Lounge was an enlightening experience because Dr. Flanagan discussed the most popular procedures she performs She spoke in detail about the different types of cosmetic fillers that effectively smooth wrinkles, stimulate the bodyâs natural collagen, and restore volume to the skin. While Botox is one of the most well-known injectables, the ladies learned that there are plenty of other options, some with results that last up to a year As a bonus, the ladies were entered in a raffle to win $1,000 off any treatment at Genesis Dermatology in Jupiter, where Dr. Flanagan practices. They also received 20% off salon and spa services at The Edmund James Salon at…

Mark My Words

Many of us overlook the importance of correct posture in our haste to hit the golf ball.  But good posture in an athletic position is the starting point with which you swing the club Without a proper set-up, you canât maximize your effort To ensure that your posture is correct it is important to know where your feet, knees, arms and spine should be in relation to one another. This picture shows that proper posture is achieved when a vertical line can be formed from the top of your spine, running inside of the elbows, across the front of your knees and through the balls of your feet. Any other posture than this will force you to make compensations during your swing to strike the ball well. This in itself will lead to less consistency in your ball striking. So make sure your posture is correct before you even…
