Wednesdays at Old Palm are all about fun
January 21, 2015

Wednesdays are Pub Nights during the season at Old Palm Golf Club, and these special events always draw a fun-loving group. Members get together with friends, catch up over drinks and relax in a casual atmosphere where people can just be themselves. Itâs the one night of the week where denim is permitted in the Club and informality rules The TVs are on, the conversations are lively, and a golf tee mat is often outside so members can take a few shots at Old Palmâs bye hole and try to win the closest-to-the-pin contest. Sometimes, there is even bungee jumping on the event lawn for kids, although parents often join in the fun. This seasonâs opening Pub Night also included a casual a la carte dinner featuring all sorts of dishes and sides that are member favorites Based on the appeal of Old Palmâs Pub Nights,…

Old Palm Golf Club unleashes another Yappy Hour
January 16, 2015

Everyone had a doggone good time recently when Old Palm hosted Yappy Hour in lieu of Wednesday’s usual Pub Night at the Club. It was a fun-filled evening for residents and their fetching canines. Members enjoyed cocktails, a buffet dinner and great camaraderie. The dogs were given treats and free rein to socialize during the three-hour event. There were dogs of various breeds and sizes, but everyone got along perfectly, so don’t think the fur was flying. The Club usually holds Yappy Hour several times a year, even more often if hounded.

Ladies Book Club discusses Pulitzer Prize-winning novel
January 14, 2015

The latest selection for Old Palmâs Ladies Book Club is a winnerâliterally. âThe Goldfinch,â Donna Tarttâs third and most ambitious novel, won the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and was chosen one of the yearâs 10 best books by the editors of the âNew York Times Book Review.â The book clubâs ladies found the 774-page tome to be a great read âThe Goldfinchâ is an elegant meditation on love, memory and the haunting power of art. It combines unforgettable vivid characters (particularly Theo Decker, who as a teenager miraculously survived an accident that killed his mother), mesmerizing language and breathtaking suspense. It many ways, the book is an old-fashioned story of loss and obsession, survival and self-invention, and the ruthless machinations of fate Thought-provoking books such as âThe Goldfinchâ always encourage lively discussion at the Old Palm Ladies Book Club, which…

A Memorial Day to remember
May 27, 2014

Memorial Day is always a big event at Old Palm Golf Club. Itâs a day for remembrance to honor the men and women who sacrificed their lives while serving in the U.S. military. Itâs also a day that traditionally kicks off the summer, and to celebrate Old Palm held a fun-filled golf tournament followed by a hearty BBQ lunch The tournament began with the singing of the Star Spangled Banner by an aspiring young vocalist attending UCF a local performing arts college.    The foursome of members and guests all had a great time as they competed in the shamble format held on Old Palmâs spectacular Raymond Floyd-designed golf course.  The Shamble format allows each golfer to play their own ball after taking the best drive in the group contributing to the camaraderie It was a clear day and not too hot when the players teed off…

A dog’s life? We should all be so lucky
April 22, 2014

[caption id="attachment_3524" align="alignleft" width="150"] Guests at the Old Palm Yappy Hour Event[/caption] Dogs are as much a part of the family as anyone. Maybe more. At least that’s how they’re treated at Old Palm Golf Club. Recently, the Club at Old Palm held a Yappy Hour for well-behaved dogs, and the canines were catered to like cherished members—which they are. Think Lifestyles of the Rich and Furry. During the festive affair, the dogs spent quality time socializing and noshing on treats before enjoying a leisurely dinner. Although the event lasted three hours, some of the pooches hounded their owners to leave a bit early. It was such a rousing success that Old Palm is sure to unleash another Yappy Hour sometime soon.
