Old Palm’s Golf Etiquette Guide
October 12, 2018

In addition to luxury real estate, Old Palm Golf Club is home to one of South Florida’s best private golf courses, designed by the famous golf architect, Raymond Floyd.  Here at Old Palm, we believe that etiquette is a principal component of the game of golf. Whether you are an experienced player or just picking up the game, you should remind yourself of the rules of the game.

1. Getting Ready to Golf

Time to Tee Off:

Old Palm recommends arriving at the golf course a minimum of 30 minutes before your tee time; the general rule is around 45 minutes. Planning a round of golf take takes time to schedule, which includes getting your bags ready and carving out time for practice shots. It is inconsiderate to other people when someone arrives late and delays the start of the round. Try…

On The Mark: Wide Starts
June 16, 2018

Mark Hackett, Director of Instruction at Old Palm Golf Club, has some fresh tips on the use of wide starts during players’ back swings to help our golf game. Hackett was recently featured in Golf Magazine’s May 2018 issue.

Knowing when to utilize wrist hinge is the key, and early in the backswing isn’t the ideal time. By picking up the club during the takeaway you are potentially setting yourself up for a number of problems. An immediate pivot of the wrists reduces power and forces weak extension at impact. This can lead to slices and pop ups, plus you’re more likely to sway your lower body in an effort to increase your…

Rule Changes Coming to Old Palm Golf Course
June 13, 2017

Recently, the USGA and R&A (golf's two governing bodies) announced 24 new proposed rules, which are set to go into effect January 1, 2019. In the meantime, clubs around the world are evaluating the proposed changes to provide feedback to the USGA, which will ultimately influence which rules are adopted. Old Palm Golf Club is one of these clubs, and our course will adopt several of the rules early to improve the golf experience here at home.

An Overview of the Changes

Of the 24 proposed new rules, there are seven our course will be adopting early. Here are the changes members can expect to see at our luxury country club in South Florida.

  • Elimination or reduction of “ball moved” penalties. There will be no penalty for accidentally moving a ball on the putting green, or for searching for a ball.
