Mark My Words
February 15, 2012

by Mark Hackett, Director of Instruction, Old Palm Golf Club One of the most notable trends with golf equipment these days is the use of hybrid or rescue clubs. Even pros are using them to replace their 1-irons, 2-irons and, in some instances, 3-irons. Players of all skill levels are switching to hybrids for several reasons, including (a)   Theyâre more forgiving than long irons (1-5 irons). A mis-hit shot with a hybrid club will fly farther in the air than a mis-hit iron shot. The technology and construction of hybrids have e nhanced the meaning of âgame improvementâ equipment. (b)  Hybrid shots fly higher in the air than long iron shots, which most golfers have difficulty getting airborne for long. Thatâs because hybrids have a lower center of gravity that produces a higher launch angle, ensuring that the ball flies higher and stays in the air…

Old Palm is one of the only luxury golf club communities in the Palm Beaches offering new homes on one-acre estate home sites. Buyers can select from several model homes already built on one of these generously sized lots in the Custom Estates neighborhood, or simply purchase the land and then build the custom home of their dreams âA one-acre home site gives the buyer much more flexibility for the design of the home,â explains Connie McGinnis, Director of Sales at Old Palm. âThey might choose to add a guest house, motor court, or expanded swimming pool and cabana area. The additional space also allows for the expansion a home theater or club room. There are very few limitations when you have a one-acre home…

Now open, our Junior Golf Academy is a big hit
February 06, 2012

Golf is a game you can play for life, and youâre never too young to start enjoying it. Thatâs what the kids at Old Palm Golf Club found out recently with the opening of this seasonâs Junior Golf Academy. It was a blast for everyone, as the kids learned the fundamentals of the game with a major emphasis on fun To keep the instruction entertaining and pressure free, the kids were grouped together according to age. During their one-hour session, they began to learn the varying aspects of the game, including the full swing, short game and putting. There was even time to introduce them to the basic rules of golf and course management As an added incentive, once the kids develop their skills, they can play in our Junior Club Championship and competitions with juniors in neighboring clubs. The Old Palm Junior Golf Academy runs every…
