Old Palm’s New Homes and Models
December 21, 2011

Homebuilding is in high gear at Old Palm Golf Club. In just the past few months, several families have moved into their new homes, model homes have opened, and others are under construction. Remarkably, Old Palm is one of the only private Club communities in the Palm Beaches with new homes and six, new furnished models Each of the three neighborhoods in Old Palm has its own personality and style of homes, so buyers have plenty of choices perfectly situated to their lifestyles. The Palm Beach-inspired homes in the Golf Estates neighborhood range from 3,400 to 5,000 square feet and are beautifully situated on quarter-acre lots overlooking private water features, preserves or the Raymond Floyd-designed golf course The Grand Estates neighborhood is known for its Mediterranean architecture. At 4,800 to 7,000 square feet, the homes are larger as are their generous half-acre lots. To maintain privacy, each Grand Estates home…

Ken’s Korner: Let’s get to the “core” of the matter
December 20, 2011

By Ken Macdonald, Fitness Center instructor at Old Palm Golf Club There are plenty of misconceptions out there about how best to work on the core muscles. Most people mistakenly think building strong core muscles will reduce the size of their mid-section, but thatâs not the role of the core muscles The real purpose of the core muscles âthe deep, intrinsic muscles between the hips and shoulders â is to stabilize the spine and prevent extraneous movement. The stronger, the better, because weak core muscles can lead to muscle pulls, back pain and shoulder pain. Here are the three most common myths I hear about working on the core muscles. 1. âIf I do more crunches, I will lose my belly fat.â You canât spot reduce (lose fat) in any area of the body by solely focusing on it in your workout. Sure, resistance training can…

Mark My Words
December 16, 2011

By Mark Hackett, Director of Instruction, Old Palm Golf Club Golfers often pull out a pitching wedge or sand wedge around the green, when putting may be a safer, higher percentage play. Thatâs especially true on the course at Old Palm Golf Club because the grass around the greens is usually tightly mown, making a chip or pitch even more difficult To putt from off the green, even as far away as 20-30 feet, try the following: ⢠Stand more upright, allowing the putter to swing more. Youâll need to strike the ball firmer than on the putting green and standing taller will help you make a longer stroke. ⢠Grip the putter approximately 50% firmer. The tighter grip will encourage a firmer stroke. ⢠Play the ball in the center of your stance. This encourages a downward strike on the ball that will help…

Golf at Old Palm Golf Club isn’t just a game; it’s an experience.
December 16, 2011

Palm Beach Post- December 16, 2011- Playing golf at Old Palm Golf Club is an experience thatâs truly unmatched anywhere in the Palm Beaches. You can tell the difference the moment you step on the first tee at Old Palm, starting with the fact that members can play whenever they like, as there is a no tee time policy, even during the height of the season Designed by PGA Hall of Fame golfer Raymond Floyd, who also serves as Honorary Club Chairman, the course was carved out of the natural terrain so carefully that the Audubon Society deemed it a Gold Signature Sanctuary to reflect Old Palmâs stewardship of the land. The front nine features wide fairways in a classic Florida style; the back nine has the feel of a North Carolina course with the holes beautifully framed by stands of towering pines. In the tradition of Scottish…

Charitable event does the heart good
December 15, 2011

As the saying goes, âcharity begins at home.â So Old Palm Golf Club and Rogers Design Group recently co-sponsored a charitable event for the American Heart Association at two of the newest model homes in our Grand Estates neighborhood, the Castillo II and the Ashford Dozens of AHA donors attended the âHuddle for the Heartâ event to hear physicians from Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center discuss ways to keep the heart healthy. Their advice was enlightening and, of course, taken to heart, as cardiovascular disease is still the number one cause of death in America The setting at Old Palm was ideal, and everyone in attendance enthusiastically toured the model homes, which were both built by Hasey Construction. Lorraine Rogers Bolton of Rogers Design Group designed the wonderful transitional-style interiors in the Castillo II. The AHA is Lorraineâs favorite charity, so itâs fitting that the event…
